Breakthrough FX Review

I’m looking for 130 trialists for an amazing ‘hands-free’ home trading demonstration.
To sign up, simply click through the link at the bottom of this email and you can start your 45-day test drive immediately.
You could be placing your first trades tomorrow morning.
As soon as I get your details, you’ll be automatically forwarded to a members’ area, where, after watching two 6-minute videos, you’ll be ready to download your software and start trading.
If you’re new to ‘robots’ – please don’t worry. It couldn’t be simpler to get set up – the videos will guide you through the process step-by-step. And all trading can be done on a demo account, so you don’t need to risk a penny until you’re completely comfortable.
All you’ll need to do is switch on your computer each morning – everything else is done for you. No technical analysis, no chart watching – you don’t even need to place the trades for yourself (unless you want to).
But I should warn you – this is a very picky robot, that only trades when conditions are perfect. Plus, it hedges every trade in the market – which not only makes the trades safer, it also makes the profits more consistent.
If you like carefully managed risk and no-effort trading – this will be for you. If you prefer lots of action and the cut and thrust of the market – maybe not.

Still no update on this method?

Is there an update for this method, it’s gone awfully quiet?

Hello Mark,
“…since I started trading on the 14th Nov.”
Shouldn’t that be 14th Oct?
As a novice, I’m trying hard to understand the value of such a trading strategy.
From a starting fund of £5000 on the 14th of October to the 20th November – 37 days – that fund has grown by just over £70. Equivalent to a ROI of just under 1.41%.
So, and I ask this all sincerity, I’m wondering is that good? Is that really worth all of the effort?
As I say, I’m a complete novice and I may be expecting too much, but it doesn’t seem that exciting.. maybe I’m not meant to get excited! 🙂

Hi Malcolm,
It hasn’t be a great start, but then it’s not unusual for your profits to wax and wane.
Longer-term we expect a 5-10% average per month.
Kind regards,

Hi Malcolm,
Thanks for spotting my typo, I’ve amended it to 14th Oct.

Sorry this has taken me so long to post, but below are the Breakthrough FX results since I started trading on the 14th Oct.
One caveat is the 6 trades in bold are estimated. We hedge the GBPUSD with a EURUSD trade and somehow I managed to switch this hedge trade off over this period, so have gone back to the charts to estimate what the entry and exit would have been.
Not perfect, but they will be pretty close. All the other trades are copied from MT4 and have been autotraded by the breakthrough FX EA.
Kind regards,
Mark Rose

“It’s simple enough to fix, I just need to run back through the chart to check what the prices were on EURUSD at the same time as I opened the GBPUSD trades.”
So.. any results yet Mark….? 🙂

Thank you for your response Mark.. much appreciated.

Are there any up to date results for this system?
Is there a link to MyFX Book please?
Cheers,
Steve.

Sorry for the delay in posting these.
I’m running Breakthrough FX on my account, but realised last week I had somehow managed to switch off the hedge trade.
It’s simple enough to fix, I just need to run back through the chart to check what the prices were on EURUSD at the same time as I opened the GBPUSD trades.
I will get this done and post the results this week.

Mark

Hello Mark,
Do you have any further comments in response to Peter’s comments .. “John Wheatland has produced a number of systems over the years, all of which seem to disappear after a year or two. What has happened to these systems and will this like the others stop working and disappear? Is Wheatland just another Failed Trading System seller like the infamous Ian Williams I wonder??”
And Rob’s claim that.. “robots sound great but never work long term..”
Many thanks,
Andrew

Hi Andrew,
I’m not sure what happened to these systems as we didn’t publish them.
I can tell you what happens from a marketing point of view though, as think it’s probably relevant.
As with all things we tend to want the latest “new thing” so after awhile the interest drops off.
For example I’m still using my Bread and Butter strategy but have had very little interest from Traders Bulletin readers in it for quite some time.
Of course things change and hopefully improvements can be made. For example the autotrading functionality of Breakthrough FX wouldn’t have been a feature of John’s previous systems making them much more hands on.
For the record I’m also working on automating Bread and Butter in a similar way.
The other reason is of course that the markets change and the system stops working as well. I’m afraid you lot are merciless to any system that shows a drawdown.
The problem is it’s almost inevitable that this is going to happen (apart of course from PIE which is the only strategy I’ve ever seen that has the potential for avoiding drawdowns) a lot of systems go on to recover or with a bit of a tweak can return to their winning ways, but as a marketable product I’m afraid they are as good as finished.
If robots will work long-term is another interesting question.
I’m presuming the argument is that robots cannot adjust their logic to the current market conditions as a human can?
All of my trading career I’ve followed rules based strategies, which is basically what a robot is.
Admittedly over the years I’v developed more of an understanding of the markets and may sometimes break the rules, because of something I perceive might effect the trade and this may or may not have been the correct decision for that trade.
What I’m unsure about is this idea that as an experienced trader I will make the correct decision significantly more times than I would have if I’d just stuck to my original rules. It’s a very hard thing to quantify, but I do always have a nagging doubt that all i’m doing is keeping myself busy/satiated rather than adding value.
For example I might come out of a trade early because I see the market is struggling to break through a certain level and bag a winning trade, however the market eventually does move up and would have given me the original profit expected.
I’ve bagged a profit and reduced the period I had my funds at risk of a loss, which is no bad thing, but these decisions have more to do with my psychology as a trader than they do with being the statistical correct thing to do to maximise my profits.
In reality and over the long-term I’m not convinced that my tinkering significantly improves my performance, or at least i’m not convinced I really have the data to know if it does, what I do know is I spend a lot of time doing it!
I am planning to run a “man against the machine” challenge to see if I can out do the Bread and Butter robot when it’s finished, but again this is just a snapshot of my performance at a certain level of competence at a certain point in time, but it will be an interesting thing to do.
I’ve probably gone off on a bit of a tangent there, what I’m trying to say is there are a lot of compelling reasons to trade a rules based strategy like a robot even if you are not using one. The problem is to do with how good a system you have. Originally the robots weren’t very sophisticated but these days they are and have become more and more the norm and are the way I see most systems going in the future.

Mark Rose

Hi Mark,
Some interesting points there, but I would like to point out that when you say that
“the autotrading functionality of Breakthrough FX wouldn’t have been a feature of John’s previous systems making them much more hands on.” – this is incorrect – he did actually come up with a robot for Autofocusfx. I did not have any success with it, and from what I gathered from the Autofocusfx forum ( when it existed), ultimately, I don’t think anyone else did either. His foray into providing a “mirror trading” service ended in failure, by his own admission. As Peter says, JW has certainly come up with a number of systems in the past (AutofocusFx, AutofocusFx EA, Each Way Fx, Trust) with varying degrees of success. It is interesting that he totally fails to mention any of these previous offerings in his sales pitch for Breakthrough FX – so he’s obviously not too proud of them.
Of course, this does not necessarily mean that Breakthrough FX cannot be successful – it is quite possible that he has learnt from previous attempts and has finally come up with a quality product. Personally, I would like to see results stretching back further than just January of this year – so many systems seem to work beautifully for a year or so, only to eventually wither and die!
Mark Rose
Hi Tony,
Thanks, I stand corrected.
I thought Autofocus generated the signals, but you had to manually trade them? Anyway I take your point.
I’m afraid you are jumping to conclusions a bit about the Breakthrough FX promo. Our copywriter wrote this from the info I gave him, rather than John writing it himself.
Regards,
Mark
Tony
Hi Mark,
Yes, there definitely was an automated version, as well as the manual one.
The promo I was referring to is the one provided by your link “click here for details” , which starts “Watch two short videos today and start profiting tomorrow morning…” and continues with a description of JW and his work, all written by him and finally signed “John”.

Hi Mark,
Can it be used with Capital Spreads?
Thanks
Mark Rose
Hi Paulo,
You need an MT4 account. Capital do these, or at least the parent company London Capital Group do, but this isn’t accessible via te standard Capital Spreads account.

Hi Mark, I am completely new to forex trading. I have read up quite a lot about it but have never actually traded before. Is this system suitable for someone like me?
Joe
Have you not had a trade since 14th October
Peter
Mark, how many updates or tweaking to the software has there been since January? Are you using a virtual server? What is your average and current draw down? Thanks
Mark Rose
Hi Peter,
There have been a few tweaks along the way, but these are not to the rules of the strategy, but to the way the EA is written.
That said we have added a stop loss and limit order to the hedge trade.
If you have hedging on (which we do as standard) then the system places a trade on EURUSD to hedge the GBPUSD trade.
This is open and closed at the same time as the GBPUSD trade and so originally didn’t have a stop or profit limit attached.
However if you lost internet connection whilst the GBPUSD trade hit either it’s stop of profit target, this would leave you with an unprotected trade open as the EA closes the EURUSD trade for you.
To prevent this we introduced a stop and limit order onto the EURUSD trade.
This way if you lost your internet connection you would simply have 2 live trades open, both with stops and limits, one hedging the other
Just a bit of belt and braces protection.
Our EA is also clever enough that if we do lose internet connection, when this is reestablished it checks what has happened since it lost connection and acts accordingly.
Because of this I don’t use a virtual server. Worst case scenario is you have two hedged trades open with stops and limits. So no major damage can be done if the internet connection is dropped.

Mark

Were there any more trades since the 14th October?

Naughty naughty Mark, robots sound great but never work long term, just look at reviews of the numerous robots that have done the rounds over the years. If they did work the banks/hedge funds etc wouldn’t bother employing expensive traders to sit there watching charts all day, they’d just plug in robots !
Disappointed your endorsing robots now.Buyer beware !!!
Mark Rose
Hi Rob,
Most banks are getting rid of their expensive traders and using algos!
All my endorsement are based on track record. I’ve been testing Breakthrough FX since the 27th of Jan and have averaged just under 6% per month.
The strategy doesn’t over-trade, has a built in hedging strategy and places sensible stops and limits on all the trades.

Mark Rose

John Wheatland has produced a number of systems over the years, all of which seem to disappear after a year or two. Hello Mark,
Some queries regarding breakthrough FX:
– The sales literature states that profits are tax free. Does this mean that the system is designed for use on spread betting platforms ?
– Do I understand correctly that the system only requires the computer to be switched on in the morning before trading but that a permanent internet connection is not required i.e. no requirement for a VPS ?
-Over what period of time are the current performance statistics based on ?
Thanks
Paul
Mark Rose
Hi Paul,
BKFX can be traded using a CFD or Spread bet account. I expect most member will spread bet because of the tax advantages.
Our orders to open are paced by 9.30am, at this point if you lost connection you are safe in the knowledge your trade is protected by your broker with a stop loss and limit order, so no risk on any nasty surprises, however you do want to keep the computer on until the trade closes as the EA does cancel any pending orders or hedge trades.
If you did lose connection then when it reconnects, the EA checks to see what has happened and reacts accordingly.
I don’t think you need a VPS (i don’t use one) as it’s only ever a couple of trades a day and they are protected with stops and limits with your broker anyway.
Results are all forward live trades from Jan 27th 2014 onwards.

Mark Rose
