Trader’s Bulletin Ad Break Trader Review

How Ad Break Trader works:

Ad Break Trader is about trading price action, which to me is one of the best ways to approach trading.

The way Ad Break Trader works is Jason looks for the support and resistance levels that the market has tested during the day and uses these to try and predict the future turning points in the market over the course of the evening.

There are a couple of ways to play it, but I’m concentrating on the set and forget trades as feel the managed trades are a bit subjective.

This is not a criticism, as there is a lot to be said for learning what the markets are telling you and acting accordingly, but for the sake of a review it makes it difficult as we will all see slightly different set ups.

Stop losses are kept tight and the profit target is in and around the 20 pip mark, so if you’re trading a relatively small bank, you’ll have no problems. Trades are also only valid until 6.30am, so you won’t be tying up your funds holding positions.

Risk/reward is pretty good, although you do need to take the spread/slippage and depending on the time the trades open, overnight financing charges into account.

Support is pretty good too with a really good members website and daily analysis video of the previous days trades, which really help to teach you how to trade the strategy, especially if you are managing the trades rather than using set and forget.

How much I made using Ad Break Trader:

EUR/USD
49 trades: 23 winners, 26 losers
Total pips made: 241pips

GBP/USD
23 trades: 11 winners, 12 losers
Total pips made: 97pips

TOTAL PIPS PROFIT: 338PIPS

(NB: I didn’t start following GBP trades until half way through the trial, which is why there are fewer trades)

If 338 pips in 8 weeks doesn’t sound like a lot to you, bear in mind that, because this is scalping, you’re only risking 8 pips on a trade, which means that, once you’re up to speed, you’re unlikely to be trading this at £1 a pip. For example, if you’re trading at £5 per pip, that’d be just £40 risk per trade.

And at £5 per pip, you’d be looking at £1,690 profit … (more if you’re able to trade more actively).

What I think:

Considering this has been done in just a few minutes each evening, I think it’s a fantastic result – I’m really pleased with Ad Break Trader and am happy to add it to my trading arsenal.

I check my emails just before 8pm each evening, looking for Jason’s “heads up” alert … place my orders accordingly … and that’s it.

The manual tells me that I could make even more if I were to actively trade the strategy between 4pm and 8pm, but with a young family, that’s not a time that I’d choose to be glued to my screens. Instead, I’ve been following the set-and-forget 8pm trade, which has genuinely only taken a few minutes out of my evening and has produced good profits.

Isn’t this what we’ve all been looking for? A system that takes very little time … needs no trading knowledge … is low risk … and makes money?

Which brings me onto another point – I said at the outset of this trial that Jason’s trading style is going to be Marmite. I know many traders love him; but I’ve also heard more negative comments about his blunt, down-beat training style. Whatever you think of his training videos – you can’t argue with that fact that this is making money!

As long as you have realistic expectations, and you can spare a few minutes at 8pm each evening, I believe that Ad Break can be a good, solid earner. I’m very pleased with the results I’ve achieved throughout my trial. Even trading at £5 per pip, which would be a £40 risk per trade, I’d be £1,609 in profit. Not bad for 5 minutes an evening over 8 weeks.

You can test Ad Break Trader out for yourself by clicking here

Personally, I think Ad Break Trader has a lot to offer. I’ve found it easy to use, and I’ve made money with it. Clearly Jason has a devoted following from his clients – with loads of positive feedback (you can see lots of comments here).

My advice is to try it out for yourself – find out which side of the Marmite fence you sit on. It comes with a full money-back guarantee, and it’s very quick to pick up, so won’t take up lots of time to get up-and-running.

    Hi Mark,
I have this and am paper trading presently from the heads up emails. Results presently poor and seriously thinking of returning the package already! It all semms to make sense but delivery is an issue.
    regards,

  • Please explain how Mark was showing what looks like a small loss in November and minus 84 pips in Feb for the two weeks posted, YET the authors sales letter is claiming 336 pips in Nov and 281 in Feb. I am sure that Mark’s review is honest which must mean that the author is lying. Any other explanation please?

    • I bought into this too, a few months ago. I paid my three instalments of £82.33 (total = £246.99, or so I thought) because it appeared to be a nice, cost effective system with a fixed cost. Then, after 45 days, I was asked to pay an additional £45 per month (that’s £540 per year) for the “Magic Channel” emails that are sent out each day. Without these, you do feel rather left on your own, although I didn’t notice this small print when I signed up. Also, as Liam mentioned above, it appears that Jason doesn’t actually personally trade the system himself. I would love to know the exact daily reasons that Rosie, the lady who appears to send out the daily emails, defines her channels. For the rest, even I can look at yesterday’s charts & say what I should have done, with perfect 20/20 hindsight – which is what the analysis videos offer. A blow-by-blow breakdown of what you should have done last night, looking back. OK, having read the book several times, I am pretty confident that I can use the system & that I can draw my own channels quite happily. Alas, I bought Ad Break Trader a week or so before Mr Putin started his latest game of political chess, which appeared to hurl a massive spanner into the works that the system is based on. Also, the “software” is a windows only gimmick, useful only to people who can’t actually draw a line on a chart. An MT4 indicator would have been lovely, but alas, this so isn’t one of those – not even close!

On the plus side, the system structurally appears to make sense. It is easy to operate, the logic is wonderfully easy to understand, and, once you have your head around it, it “should” realistically be exactly what it says on the tin. However (& this is only my opinion, etc, etc) it appears to have times when it works, & times when it doesn’t (like now, for instance). I’m busy waiting for it to start working again, and every few days I look back at yesterday’s charts, draw my channels, then see what would have happened (& then smile to myself, safe in the knowledge that I didn’t lose anything, because it didn’t do what the system said it should). In the weeks before Mr Putin did what he did, it seemed to work quite well, so I look forward to life getting back to normal in the future, when it “ought” to start working again (fingers crossed). It’s the first (& hopefully the last) system that I will buy, but I don’t feel that I wasted my money on the initial payment. However, the £45 a month for the rest of eternity was definitely one step beyond, and I was unwilling to pay that. I am hopeful that at some point over the next year that I should make back my initial £246.99 investment in this system, although I fear that it may be some months before I actually put real (or even Demo) money back on to a channel that I have drawn.

Mark, how are your current figures since Ukraine blew on the set & forget? Up or down?

      • hi
I am trialing the system but it is not making profit at the moment. I have only tried paper trading but would not have the confidence to go live as the results seem poor. Perhaps it is just a bad time for the system and Jason gives this impression in some of his comments. I may return it and wait until things improve in the market or we get some more positive feedback. It would be good if Mark would comment on the recent results he is getting as he still offers the system with positive comments above. I did not notice anything about £45 per month either – did I read it too quickly?

    • A

My results won’t be the same as the author’s as I only traded the set-and-forget method. Active trading offers the potential to make bigger profits with this system, but for me, the set-and-forget was just so easy to manage, and the returns (for minimum effort) were very worthwhile.

  • I have also been using the system ( demo ) for approx the last 2 weeks & have had mixed results. Setting a set & forget at 8pm ( which is why i bought the system ) would have shown a loss. What i am most disappointed about is that i thought i was buying a system that the author was actually trading himself, but it soon became obvious that this is not the case with the daily videos. the problem being that you can make anything fit an idea in hindsight. I am also disappointed that there is no vehicle to converse with people actually trading live ( like a facebook group etc.) so that you can learn from decisions being made by more experienced traders as things happen. sadly, i think this is something that i think i will be sending back

  • just been using this strategy for about two weeks. About break even setting trades around 8.00 pm and leaving them overnight. I am assuming / hoping that the current volatility is working against this strategy , which presumably prefers a quiet market? Can anyone confirm that the last few weeks have been especially bad?

  • Hi,

they are currenty offering a payment of 3 units. I’m considering to test it but not sure yet, cause of the poor results lately Mark did post. Is there anyone else using this strategy and has good consistant results wit the S&F strategy? Would anyone get the same results when using only the S&F strategy in the evening or is there some ambiguity when taking trades?

    Thanks.

    • Hi Sinisa,
I have the strategy. I purchased it directly some time ago before I came onto this posting site. I have had mixed results with this system. I see that if purchased through Mark, he will provide a better edge to trading this system. Unfortunately though, for those of us who already have it, we may never have the edge to improve upon results. Maybe he will share his strategy for a nominal fee.
      Kind regards,

      Phil.

A poor week this week for my Ad Break trades.

I did notice that IG have reduced the minimum stop distance from 10pips to 7.5 on GBP/USD.

Personally and if I wasn’t sticking to the rules for the stake of this review, I’d tighten up the stop so it matched the EURUSD pair.

GBP/USD has been the pair to bring in the profits again this week.

Feels like this is the markets way of telling me I don’t know what I talking about (I still think the EUR/USD is better).

Anyway I don’t mind which pair makes the profits as long as i get some.

Mon 27h Jan EURUSD 1 loss -11 pips profit
Mon 27th Jan GBPUSD 1 loss -13 pips profit

So of course after knocking GBPUSD last week, this week it performs well and I’ve had another good week for my Ad Break trades.

Using Ad Break is now pretty much second nature, I take a look at 8pm and am normally all finished by 5 minutes past.

If you have the time, then i’m pretty sure there are more profits to be had trading the earlier slots, but for me trading the set and forget method at 8pm is producing very good return for the limited amount of effort required.

Mon 20th Jan EURUSD 1 win 14 pips profit 1 loss -11 pips profit
Mon 20th Jan GBPUSD 2 wins 28 pips profit

Tues 21st Jan EURUSD 1 loss – 11 pips profit

Thur 23rd Jan EURUSD 1 loss – 11 pips profit

GBPUSD 2 losses and 4 win for 30 pips profit on the week.

Once again my Euro/USD trades did well last week, but GBP/USD struggled and I have to admit if I wasn’t testing it and posting the results, I might have pulled the plug on GBP/USD by now.

Mon 13th Jan EURUSD 1 win 14 pips profit
Mon 13th Jan GBPUSD 1 loss – 13 pips profit

Tues 14th Jan EURUSD 1 loss – 11 pips profit

GBPUSD 4 losses and 2 win for -28 pips profit on the week.

    Regards,

A good week this week for EURUSD, which has tended to be the better pair of the two since we started trading Ad break.

Along with it just performing better, I think the risk reward ratio we have on the EUR/USD trades (the stops are that little bit tighter) makes a big difference.

Thur 9th Jan EURUSD 1 loss – 11 points profit
Thur 9th Jan GBPUSD 1 loss – 13 points profit

EURUSD 2 losses & 4 win for 34 pips profit on the week.
GBPUSD 3 losses and 2 win for -11 pips profit on the week.

Ouch – warning, don’t leave daily FX bets open overnight on a Wednesday with IG!

You can tell I’m a bit rusty, I forgot to switch platforms yesterday and it has cost me.

As a norm I try to use the same platform as the system developer and Jason is using IG, but IG’s overnight funding charges on a Wednesday are eye-wateringly expensive.

To be honest their overnight funding charges are a bit on the rich side at the best of the times, but are on a whole other level on Wednesday’s.

In fairness to them, if you are thinking of holding a position over the weekend, then you should trade with then, so it is a bit of a case of swings and roundabouts. I’ll try to explain.

Most spreadbet firms (and this is how IG used to operate) will charge you for 3 days of overnight funding charges if you hold trade open from Friday to Monday.

In the real market though the price you trade is actually +2 so on Wednesday you are trading the Friday price.

Most brokers ignore this and charge us clients weekend charges at the weekend, however IG have started charging us for 3 days overnight financing charges on a Wednesday, which whilst technically correct, just seems crazy to me.

So the upshot was last night I had two losing trades with 6 days funding piled on top, so not a great night, it has still been a decent start back, but just goes to show ou how important it is to keep control of the costs.

2 wins and a loss last night for Ad Break giving me a 15 pip profit overall.

Tues 7th Jan EURUSD 2 wins 28 points profit
Tues 7th Jan GBPUSD 1 loss – 13 points profit

I can’t help but notice that once again I would have made more profit (and a smaller loss) if I hadn’t reduced the targets.

A good start to the New Year for Ad Break last night.

I’ve made a New Year resolution to stop pushing the profit target out on my overnight trades, as I admit it did break the rules a bit. So from last night I have tightened these back up. Of course my way would have made more profit last night!

Mon 6th Jan EURUSD 2 wins 28 points profit
Mon 6th Jan GBPUSD 2 wins 28 points profit

A great start, let hope the performance continues, as this is a really quick and simple way to trade at a pretty convenient time of day.

    Mark

I’m not trading Ad Break before 8pm, but it would be great to hear from any of you who have signe up and are traing the 4pm to 8pm slot.

  • I had a good week this week but I am racking my brains because there was a system I was following with you a while back that used a broker who rolled over charges at 4.00pm and I’m wondering if using this would be better for Ad Break to cut down those IG rollover prices that can make this a big dent in our weekly profits

      Hi Margy,

I think you are referring to ETX although unfortunately this applied to rolling European Indices, not FX, so won’t be of much help.

Well at least I managed a small profit for the week!

    Hi Mark,

Thur 5th Dec GBPUSD 1 win 20 pips profit

    And for the week;

2 wins and a loss last night.

It was a good call at 9.15pm to move the entry price on the GBPUSD trade down a little, otherwise I think we would just have hit the stop (it’ hard to be completely sure on this as it will depend on what the spread was on IG at 00:50), but moving the entry down by 6 points meant we were well inside the stop with the low, before the price reversed and went to the profit target.

    Wed 4th Dec EURUSD 1 win & 1 loss 12 points profit
Wed 4th Dec GBPUSD 1 win 20 pips profit

    Regards,

    Mark

  • Hi Mark.
I had similar results to you for both the 3rd and the 2nd but I set my T/P lower and bagged 11 pips on both last night.
All in all although it seems to have been a mixed bag the last few weeks, I am still liking the system overall and as traders we know there are always going to be losing days and weeks
    Cheers
    Margy

    • A

      Hi Margy,

Well done for reducing the profit target and bagging the winners.

As I’m testing this and posting my results I’ve stuck to the same profit target on every trade (within a point or two anyway) otherwise it’s hard to judge if the results I get would also be achieved by others.

But it’s always interesting to see how much you can improve (or not) the performance by managing the trades a bit.

Often I will place two trades. One managed and one with a set target to see if I can improve the performance. This sort of split test can really help you identify what improves performance and what doesn’t.

      Regards,

      Mark

  • A

I had 2 of my Ad Break trades triggered last night. One on each of the pairs, unfortunately neither made it to the profit target.

Tues 3rd Dec GBPUSD 1 loss -10 pips profit.

    Hi Jem,

I take your point about hindsight. To my mind the purpose of the videos is to teach us how we should/could apply the strategy to get the best results and if looked at in this light, can be a great help.

I’m using the S&F version of the strategy, placing the trades around 8pm. I’ll check the levels from the heads up email and use these unless there has been some significant price action in the meantime.

I’m not not looking at the price action trying to identify the correct moment to enter, but simply place the orders and leave them to get triggered.

Last night for example both pairs had 1 trade triggered each at just after 1am, which have gone on to win this morning.

Mon 2nd Dec EURUSD 1 win 20 pips profit
Mon 2nd Dec GBPUSD 1 win 20 pips profit.

    Regards,

    Mark

    • Hi Mark,
Many thanks for reply. I’m particularly grateful you highlighted the point that you’re not looking at price action in order to identify an entry point but simply to S & F the orders. That has been a crucial error on my part so I now feel more encouraged.

      Regards
      Jem

  • Although Jason’s video postings are invaluable, it’s easy next morning to show how many trades up-and-down actually formed, because hindsight is a wonderful thing! Even if I’ve set my 20 pip wide support and resistance lines, how do I know when the candles show clearly enough that a new trade might be worth placing? Tonight, for instance, the euro is only dragging itself along in a 7 pip range; IG’s charges would swallow up most of that were I to try and trade it.

  • A

No me neither. We should have avoided the US holidays.

4 days all with the same result, 2 trades triggered and 2 losses.

EURUSD 4 losses for -32 pips profit on the week..
GBPUSD 4 losses for -40 pips profit on the week.

    Hi Mark,
    I agree being oversold.
However, I have set my TP,s slightly inside the 20 pip limit due to the shallow movement. Let’s see.
Also if I had time to trade it the MRP strategy system looks a peach.
    Kind regards,
    Phil.

  • A

    Hi Phil,

    Glad they are matching up.

I’ve just placed my trades for this evening. Have to say the S&F version is much less stressful that trying to fit in manual trading between 4 and 8pm.

I’m quite hopeful tonight as the prices are showing as overbought and I’ve put the profit target just infront of the daily pivot point, so from a technical stand point they look ok.

    Regards,

    Mark

  • Phil. Jones

    Hi Mark,
I am now using set and forget, and my results echo yours. At work all day, so hope it works for me.
    Not ready to retire yet….
    Kind regards,
    Phil.

  • A

In my experience trailing stops reduce risk, normally at the expensive of profits and it is a difficult balancing act.

I’m working on incorporating a trailing stop on a system at the minute and whilst they look great in theory, pinning them down to a profitable methodology is much more difficult, especially when how you can set them up on most brokers is pretty limited.

2 of my Ad Break Trades were triggered last night one short on EURUSD and one short on GBPUSD, both lost.

22nd Nov GBPUSD 1 loss -10 point profit

EURUSD 16 pips for the week.
GBPUSD -20 pips for the week.

About break even when you take the higher stake per point (because of the slightly tighter distance in points to the stop) on EURUSD

I had a winners and a loser on GBPUSD and this would have been 2 winners if I’d tightened up my profit target and entry like Jason recommends for S&F trades.

Only 1 of my EURUSD trades was triggered and this was a loss.

    19th Nov EURUSD 1 loss – 8 pips profit
19th Nov GBPUSD 1 win and 1 loss for 10 pips profit.

    Regards,

    Mark

  • A

1 win on EURUSD and 1 loss on GBPUSD last night giving me 10 pips profit overall.

18th Nov EURGBP 1 win 20 pips profit.
18th Nov GBPUSD 1 loss -10 pips profit.

    Hi Shaun,

Without their data it’s impossible to know how they achieved the results they have and is why we test strategies out for ourselves.

I’ve not looked at any published results, but based my review on my own trading.

Often with trading strategies you will find members of the same service debating results as they have achieved different levels of performance, so it has to be about how the strategy performs for you.

I think Ad Break is a good strategy, Jason’s combination of previous price action and exploitation of the overnight channel is clever and has the potential to produce steady income for minimal effort.

    Regards,

    Mark

  • Like you say Mark, they are good results for a 5 minute job. However this still doesn’t come anywhere near to the official beta testers results. Do you think their results can be believed, or have they changed the system (or blatantly lied)?! This does seem a good system (which I did keep) but something is away with the results somewhere in a big way and it’s this sort of possible
dishonesty or exaggeration of results that really winds me up. 🙁

  • A

I’ve now been following this for around 8 weeks, so feel that I’ve got a good feel for how it works and whether it can make money.

First off, here’s my trading results:
    EUR/USD
    49 trades: 23 winners, 26 losers
    Total pips made: 241pips

    GBP/USD
    23 trades: 11 winners, 12 losers
    Total pips made: 97pips

    TOTAL PIPS PROFIT: 338PIPS

Considering this has been done in just a few minutes each evening, I think it’s a fantastic result, and I’m really pleased with the strategy.

I check my emails at 8pm each evening … place my orders … that’s it.

The manual tells me that I could make even more if I were to actively trade the strategy between 4pm and 8pm, but with a young family, that’s not a time that I’d choose to be glued to my screens. Instead, I’ve been following the set-and-forget 8pm trade, which has genuinely only taken a few minutes out of my evening.

Isn’t this what we’ve all been looking for? A system that takes very little time … needs no trading knowledge … is low risk … and makes money?

Which brings me onto another point – I said at the outset of this trial that Jason’s trading style is going to be Marmite. I know many traders love him; but I’ve also heard more negative comments. Whatever you think of his training videos – you can’t argue with that facts that this is making money!

As long as you have realistic expectations, and you can spare a few minutes at 8pm each evening, I believe that Ad Break can be a good, solid earner. I’m very pleased with the results I’ve achieved throughout my trial. Even trading at £5 per pip, which would be a £40 risk per trade, I’d be £1,205 in profit on EURUSD alone. Not bad for 5 minutes an evening over 8 weeks.

You can test it out for yourself by clicking here:

Mark, do you think implementing a trailing stop of say 10 pips would have improved loses but not overly impacted on wins?

A pretty good night again last night for my Ad Break trades with one win and one loss.

My determination to hold out for a few more points did work against me though, as I missed my profit target by 1 point on the EURUSD trade before it turned.

If I’d followed Jason’s rules to the letter my profit target would have been a couple of points lower which would have given me 2 winning trades.

Even with that it’s been a good week with 125 pips profit from a strategy that is taking me just 5 minutes of my time 4 night a week.

14th Nov EURGBP 1 loss -8 pips profit.
14th Nov GBPUSD 1 win 20 pips profit.

EURUSD 35 pips for the week.
GBPUSD 90 pips for the week.

    Regards,

    Mark

  • A

Only 2 of the 4 Ad Break trades were triggered last night and both lost.

13th Nov EURUSD 1 loss -8 pips profit.
13th Nov GBPUSD 1 loss -10 pips profit.

    Regards,

    Mark Rose

  • A

More good news for my Ad Break test last night with 4 trades and 4 winners.

    12th Nov EURUSD 2 winners = 40 pips profit.
    12th Nov GBPUSD 2 winners = 40 pips profit.

80 pips for the day is my best Ad Break pip haul to date.

A good start to the week this week with 3 wins out of 4 last night.

    11th Nov EURUSD 1 win 19 pips & 1 loss of 8 pips = 11 pips profit
    11th Nov GBPUSD 2 wins both 20 pips = 40 pips profit

I noticed this morning that Jason sent out some additional “heads up” emails at around 9pm. I have to admit I missed this and set my trades at 8pm as normal.

  • The recent review undertaken by ‘Systems for Traders’ makes interesting reading (http://systemsfortraders.com)
I’m only a couple of weeks into trading the strategy and use my experience to set/adjust the ‘channel’ – the one crucial element that is not easy for a novice, I would’ve thought. Jason’s daily suggested levels are frequently adjusted during the evening, too.

  • The only way to be sure that results are genuine is to get the beta tester or vendor to open an account and then allow people to look at results going forward. When I say ‘look at results’ I mean proper screen shots of the account showing the actual trade logs. Over time this builds into a much clearer picture than simply stating that “System ABC made 275 pips in June.”

You will be surprised at how many system vendors will flatly refuse to do this. There is always one excuse or another but it always leads to the vendor not going ahead with the test account.

I guess that we have to remember that not all vendors are really traders.

  • Jason told me that his beta tester made 530 pips in October; so I’m going wrong somewhere. It is a shame that Jason didn’t keep detailed breakdowns of the trades as I too would like to go through each trade in detail to see where the discrepancies lie.

  • Mark, it would be really helpful if you could update your results to include this week – thank you!

    • A

      Hi Paul,

      My results this week were;

      Mon 4th Nov EURUSD 1 win & 1 loss = 12 pips profit
      Mon 4th Nov GBPUSD 1 loss = – 10 pips profit

      Tues 5th Nov EURUSD 1 loss = – 8 pips profit
      Tues 5th Nov GBPUSD 1 loss = – 10 pips profit

I missed being entered into a EURUSD trade by 1 pip, that if I’d strictly followed the rules would have won 11 pips.

      Wed 6th Nov EURUSD 1 loss = – 12 pips profit
      Wed 6th Nov GBPUSD 1 loss = – 10 pips profit

      Thur 7th Nov EURUSD 1 loss = – 8 pips profit
      Thur 7th Nov GBPUSD 1 loss = – 10 pips profit

EURUSD – 12 pips for the week
GBPUSD – 40 pips for the week

      Regards,

      Mark

  • Hi Mark

Re your post on Nov 2:
    —Quote—
‘If I have one criticism of Ad Break it is the reduction in the risk/reward profile for the S&F trades compared to the manual trades.

Without wanting to give away the details of the system here, I prefer to stick with the 8 point stop, split the difference with the entry and, if possible, look for a slightly wider channel to give me the same risk reward profile as a manual trade.’
    —End Quote—

So you can’t resist tweaking the system!
That’s fine for you, as an experienced trader, but surely the point of the trial is to try and simulate the results of a novice following the system rules to the letter.

How much profit do you estimate such a novice would have made compared with your results?

    • A

      Hi Jeff,

My trades are entered within a point or 2 of Jason’s heads up email levels, so the difference wont be much.

As you’ll see if you read the articles on the site as well as testing systems I try to explain the how and why of my trades.

One of the biggest errors in trading that I was guilty of when I started was over-trading and it is something I have worked hard to stop doing.

For me if the trade doesn’t give you the risk/reward you want then you shouldn’t trade it. For the test of Ad Break I sometimes looked to get in a point or so earlier and out a point or so later so as to have a risk/reward I’m happy with. Sometimes this has worked for me as I’ve made a better return and sometimes it has worked against me – like on Tuesday (5th) this week where I missed a trade that would have won.

      Regards,

      Mark Rose

  • Hello Mark

When you say, you set up your oeders around 8pm. Are you using the figures from Jasons 6pm heads-up or are you analyzing the charts yourself for your own set of figures.

    • A

      Hi Jason,

Yes I’m using the “Heads up” figure (or at least within a point or 2 of them) unless I can see that the price has moved since the “Heads Up” email was sent.

      Regards,

      Mark

  • Hi Mark

I like Jason’s trading style. However there is a marked discrepancy between the results his beta tester, Rosie, achieved and your results. In the advert letter he said in September she made 315 pips- and that was her worst month! In June, July and August she made 599, 810 and 661 pips respectively.I understand she trades S&F 2 trades daily each on EUR and GBP. This is what I’m doing but I’m getting the same results as you. Of course there will be some differences but not the vast differences between your results (and mine) and hers. Will be interesting to know how much Rosie made in October. I’ll ask Jason. .

    • A

Yes it will be interesting to compare them. One thing to take into account is I only started trading GBPUSD on the 22nd of October, before this I was just looking at EURUSD, so this will account for some of it.

      Regards,

      Mark Rose

      • I was intrigued by this discrepancy too. I e mailed Jason and asked him if I could have the specifics of his beta traders trades so that I could go through them all and work out what and how she did. Unfortunately Jason told me that this wasn’t possible because as soon as they finished the beta testing all the charts and data from the tests was deleted and just the results were kept. Seems a but strange to me as to why you would delete them, but Jason would have no reason to lie to me … I guess.
I have to say though that I am not getting anywhere near what the system appeared to promise – I am lucky to break even most weeks to be honest as I seem to be 1 or 2 pips unlucky with every trade.

  • Hello Mark, Ross Anderson here

I have not made any trades this week but fully understand the system. I have noticed when you lose a trade, you only lose 8 pips. Shouldnt it be 11 with the EUR. 8 plus 3. Could you describe to me how you set up your trade as it seems to work out slightly better
    Cheers, Ross

    • A

      Hi Ross,

If I have one criticism of Ad Break it is the reduction in the risk/reward profile for the S&F trades compared to the manual trades.

Without wanting to give away the details of the system here, I prefer to stick with the 8 point stop, split the difference with the entry and, if possible, look for a slightly wider channel to give me the same risk reward profile as a manual trade.

      Regards,

      Mark

  • Hi Mark
Been following your results with interest.
I think you may have underestimated your GBP gains as it appears from your published results you made 79 pips giving you an overall total with EUR of 114 Pips for 4 days trading!

  • A

Another good week for my Ad Break trader test.

The 2 trades triggered last night, one of GBPUSD and one on EURUSD. Unfortunately both lost, but overall another positive week’s results

    Oct 31st EURUSD 1 loss = -8 pips profit
    Oct 31st GBPUSD 1 loss = -10 pips profit

    Total for the week

    EURUSD 35 pips profit
    GBPUSD 79 pips profit

    Regards,

    Mark

  • A

3 out of my 4 Ad Break trades won again last night and in truth, if I’d not been greedy it would have been 4 out of 4!

Jason recommends on the S&F trades we tighten up our entry and profit targets a bit so as not to just miss a target.

The logic being that if we are watching a trade we can make the decision to enter/ close the trade if we see it hitting resistance, but for overnight trades when we are not watching we don’t have this option, so it is better to tighten up the parameters a bit.

Last night if I had done so I would have won all 4 trades as the price bounced just before my profit target. Still 3 out of 4 was still a very good night!

Wed 30th Oct EURUSD 1 win and 1 loss for 12 pips profit
Wed 30th Oct GBPUSD 2 wins for 40 pips profit

    Regards,

    Mark

  • A

Another good night for Ad Break. 3 trades triggered and all 3 won 20 pips.

29th Oct EURUSD 1 winning trade for 20 pips profit
29th Oct GBPUSD 2 winning trades for 40 pips profit.

These results are all set and forget and I’m ignoring the recommendation to close at 6.30 am, so it really is hands off trading. Again last night I placed the orders to open at 7pm to take into account the fact our clocks have gone back, but this has yet to happen in the US.

If you haven’t signed up for a trial yet, then I really do think this is worth a look. I’m up 205 pips in a month, for little more than spending 5 minutes in front of the pc on an evening setting 4 trades to open. It’s hard to see how it could be much simpler!

2 winners and 2 losers on Ad Break for me last night, I did however take the clocks going back in the UK, but not in the US into account and set my orders to open at 7pm rather than 8pm.

I’m going to do this each day this week and will be back to normal next week as the clocks go back in the US at the weekend, which will bring them back into line.

    28th Oct EURUSD 1 win for 19 pips 1 loss of 8 pips = 11 pips profit
    28th Oct GBPUSD 1 win for 19 pips 1 loss of 10 pips = 9 pips profit

  • Hi Mark
In your first post (Sep 20) you mentioned overnight financing charges.
How have these impacted your net profit (in terms of pips)?

    • A

      Hi Jeff,

It hasn’t for me but this will depend on the time your trades open and the time your broker rolls the positions.

I’ve been placing S&F trades on IG at 8pm. In the main these trades haven’t opened until after 10pm (which is the time they roll) so I have avoided financing charges.

That said who you use as a broker can make a big difference to the costs and it is worth shopping around. For example IG and many others charge a rolling charge on short trades, when in truth we are actually lending them money and so they should be paying us (in theory anyway).

IG also have some strange rules about charging weekend rolling costs on a Wednesday night rather than a Friday.

Without wanting to go into too much detail, if you we’re trading in the futures market you trade the price 2 days in advance and so would be hit by weekend rolling cost on a wednesday night, however most spreadbet firms ignore this and only charge clients weekend rolling cost at the weekend.

IG have decided that they want to apply this costs as they get them and so charge weekend rolling costs on a Wednesday night rather than on a Friday as you would have expected.

Personally I think this is really confusing, but the upshot is try not to roll trades on a Wednesday night with IG unless you really have to as you will be hit for 3 overnight charges instead of 1.

      Regards,

      Mark

  • Hello Mark, Ross Anderson here

I read all your comments yesterday before buying the system. I noticed for EURUSD you are aiming for 20 points profit. In the manual Jason uses a buffer of 3 pips but you don’t seem to be taking this into account. What is your tale on this.
I think by using the 3 pip buffer at both S&R, it doesn’t leave that much profit on the table if you have one winner and one loser
    Cheers, Ross

    • A

      Hi Ross,

My gut reaction is if the trade doesn’t give you the risk reward profile you want, then you should stay out of the trade. Over trading and chasing trades are two of the main culprits for pegging back performance and to my mind are to be avoided.

That said Jason has introduced this rule because he found he was just missing the entry into what would have been winning trades. I suffered one of these last week missing an entry by 1 pip, so understand the frustration.

If the channel is large enough then what you take from one side you can add to the other and I think this will be a case of taking each trade on as you see it.

For those who don’t have the experience then stick rigidly to the rules, but for those who think they can see the likely turning points for the trades, then amending the profit limit a little either way can pay dividends.

      Regards,

      Mark

  • I’m loving Ad Break Trader, it is easy & stress-less. Jason is such a great guy to work with his attitude is so friendly and helpful.
I’m happy to make between 50-100 pips a week and Jason does say that GBP-USD records lower successes than the EUR-USD but all in all this is a profitable way to trade at home at night.

  • A

Not a great week for my Ad Break test.

EURUSD 6 trades 2 win 4 losses 8 pips profit

    GBPUSD 6 trades 1 wins and 5 losses for – 32 pips.

Overall EURUSD is still doing well with a 177 pip profit to date, but my first week of GBPUSD trades was a disappointment.

    Regards,

    Mark

  • Hi Mark – just a quick question. Do you always set your s & f trades round about 8pm or does this vary a bit. I have followed the manual and tried it but it seems to me that sometimes at 8 the channels are not quite set yet, and other times by 8 it has already done a number of moves and you have almost missed it.
    Cheers,
    Shaun

    • A

      Hi Shaun,

With the odd exception I’ve been setting the order to open at 8pm (or very close to) regardless of what I may see or think!

I agree that sometimes it would be better to watch the markets for a bit and it always makes sense to look back at the chart to see what the price action has been doing, but for the sake of the test I’m ignoring this and just placing the orders to open regardless.

If I tinker too much then it’s not a fair review!

Point in case is last night I’d have put my buy EUR/USD 2 or 3 points higher than the level on the heads up email and this would have been enough to get the trade triggered for a winner (I know hindsight in a wonderful thing), but so as to be accurate I stuck with the levels emailed and missed the entry by a point.

      Regards,

      Mark Rose

      • Ok – many thanks Mark. I do tend to think that this system has a good potential to work well, but I am not convinced it is quite as easy as they make out in the sales blurb! Anyway, many thanks for doing the test, and thanks for your reply.

  • A

Got my first GBP/USD winner last night for a profit of 18 pips. 2nd trade went to the stop for a 10 point loss.

I missed getting triggered on the long EUR/USD by 1 pip, which was annoying as it would have won, instead the short was triggered for an 8 point loss, although again if i’d closed it a 6.30am then it would have been a 1 pip profit.

Wed 23rd Oct EUR/USD 1 loss for -8 pips profit
    Wed 23rd Oct GBP/USD 1 win for 18 and 1 loss for -10 = 8 pips profit.

    Regards,

    Mark

  • Thanks Mark for the detailed explanation. I fully intend to shut myself in a room and digest the manual fully next week (having to take of the kids this week, and not had a minute to myself yet :-)) Will take on board too exactly what you have said. I’ve always been a horse racing fan, but this looks a lot more realistic to profit from.

  • A

1 win and 1 loss last night on EUR/GBP for a 12 pip profit.

Again officially if I had closed my 2nd trade at 6.30am as per the instructions in the manual I would have made 1pip, but I let the trade run and it went to an 8 point stop.

Yesterday leaving the trade open worked in my favour, today it didn’t and I’m pretty confident this is just a case of swings and roundabouts and overtime it will make little difference to the performance.

GBP/USD didn’t do as well although was a little unlucky to just touch the stop on the first trade before going to the profit limit and then entering the 2nd trade at 5.20am.

    Tues 22nd Oct EUR/USD 1 win 1 loss = 12 pips profit
    Tues 22nd Oct GBP/USD 2 losses = – 20 pips profit

    Regards,

    Mark

    • Hi Mark,
Your GBP/USD result (23rd Oct) you’ve recorded 2 losses but then it says -20 profit?

Is this 2 losses each hitting a 10 pip S/L but overall an 8pip loss for the evening?

Also can you give an idea of how well jason does manually trading between 4pm and 8pm just out of interest?

      • A

        Hi Chris,

Made 12 pips on EUR/USD lost 20 pips on GBP/USD.

I’m going to keep the 2 separate though as the stop losses on each are different and therefore the stakes per pip also need to be different to maintain the same risk per trade, so it isn’t a simple as adding the two together for an overall figure.

It’s also going to be interesting to see how they do in comparison to one another.

Jason’s results for the manual trades are better than the Set and Forget. This is partly because there are more opportunities to trade and partly to do with having the knowledge and experience to make the right decisions at the right time.

        Regards,

        Mark Rose

  • Hi Mark, so to sum up (haven’t had chance to read manual in full just yet due to work etc), you can set the trade up manually, but also need to close it manually early the day after? Would have liked to set up manually the night before, and let the trade close automatically at some point.. If both need to be done manually though I’m sure waking up ten minutes earlier to do this will be worth it.. Thanks, James.

    • A

      Not quite.

If you open a manual trade you can still set an expiry time, profit limit/stop loss and walk away if you want to.

The difference between manual and set and forget is as far as Ad Break is concerned is that you actively manage a manual trade and may close the trade before the stop or limit is reached depending on the price action you see before you. I.E. you are watching the charts.

Set and forget is left as an order to open that may or may not get triggered and you don’t need to watch the chart.

For the sake of this test I’ve stuck with S&F because the manual trades are much more subjective and my results would most likely be different to yours (plus if I’m honest I don’t want to spend 4 to 6 hours glued to my screens in an evening!)

On most platforms if you open a trade manually as well as setting a stop and limit profit you can set an expiry date and time. If by the set time neither the stop or limit has been hit, the trade will close at the market price, this enables you to walk away from the trade if it’s still in play overnight.

What I don’t think you can do is set an order to open, that if it is triggered has an expiry date and time. You can set an expiry date and time so that if the trade hasn’t opened the order to open will be cancelled, but if the trade has been opened then you would need to manually add the expiry date and time, which in not very practical if the trade is triggered at 4am!

I hope that makes sense as I’m worried I’m over complicating things?

Basically if you placed order to open the night before that hasn’t hit the stop or profit limit, you can either close them when you get a chance the next morning or leave them to hit the stop or profit limit. I’ve tended to leave them to hit the stop or profit limit because it’s easier.

      All the best,
      Mark

  • Hi Mark.
so, no easy answer to it.
Not wishing you to give anything away, but, what does Jason / the manual say.
The web sales page doesn’t actually detail the closing of trades and this could be an issue for some
    Thanks Andy

    • If you read Jason’s manual, after 8.00pm he recommends an order to trade, with this method you can elect when to close your trades down so 6.00am to 6.30am is a good rule of thumb.

    • A

Instructions are to close the trades prior to the European open.

In most cases I would expect the trades to be done and dusted, so don’t really see it as a problem. And I’ve been letting the trades run and still doing pretty well, so don’t think it is an issue to worry too much about.

      Regards,

      Mark

  • A

    Hi Andy,

If it was me I’d check at some point before I go out the door to work and make the decision then.

You might want to move your stop up, close the trade at the current market price or let it run to see what happens.

There will never be a right answer and these things tend to even themselves out over time. Just take a look at my posts above, sometimes letting the trades run has worked for me and sometimes it hasn’t.

In truth I’ve tended to let them run mainly because I’m just interested to see what they do.

Unfortunately I don’t think there is a broker that allows you to set a time to automatically close a trade on an order to open ticket (I.E. At 8pm when you place the set and forget trades) so you’d still need to login early to set the time to close, which would some what defeat the object!

    Regards,

    Mark

  • A

    Hi Andy,

In reality I think it’s probably more accurate. Are you really going to get up each morning at 6am just in case there is still a trade open from last night? It’s not very set and forget is it!

And in my defence I am always admitting to it if I do let a trade run and saying what the profit would have been had I closed it before the open.

    Regards,

    Mark

    • Hi Mark,
Agreed, not very set and forget. And no, i rarely see 6am.
Not looking to criticise your reporting ( thank god for you/ those that do trial & report) but, for those of us that have to get to work, would it be best to just let them hit the stops / limits ? ( is it possible to have the broker close the position at a certain time ?)
      thanks Andy

Last night EUR/USD trade has just hit my 20 pips profit target, although in truth I was supposed to close this before the European open this morning for a smaller profit of about 5 pips.

Unfortunately my first GBP/USD trade let me down and hit a 10 pips stop. Still a profitable pair of trades overall last night.

Mon 21st Oct 1 EURUSD trade for a 20 pip profit

    Mon 21st Oct 1 GBP/USD trade for a 10 pip loss

    Regards,

    Mark

    • Mark, i have been following your updates with interest but am concerned that on more than one occasion you are saying you left the trades open when, according to the set and forget, you should be closing them before 7am.
Do you think this gives an accurate/fair picture of results for people that are considering buying the system ?
      Just an observation
      Andy

  • Thank you. I’d actually been reading your daily comments first before I purchased the system, and started reading the manual shortly after commenting on here. Realised he explained this in the manual. Looking forward to testing it out, total newbie to Forex so should be interesting..

  • Hi, I’ve just purchased this method, and would like to know if starting out with a £500 betting bank how would you decide the value of one pip? So for example 1%, £5 etc.. Just want to get an idea as to how high a pip value can be before it is seen as being reckless, and what is safest long term. Thank you.

    James

      Hi James,

I’m not 100% sure what % risk Jason recommends in the manual, but assume it’s around 2%?

If so 8 (number of pips to the stop loss) x your stake should equal 2% of your pot.

      8 x £1.25 = £10 risk per trade which is 2% of your £500 pot.

      Regards,

I’ve decided starting Monday I’ll add GBP/USD to my Ad Break test.

Looking back over the charts for the last month, the performance looks pretty similar to EUR/USD and it’s only taking me a couple of minutes to set the trades each evening, so adding GBP/USD won’t be difficult.

As always I’ll post my results here.

    Regards,

    Mark

    • Hi Mark
Can I ask if you are using the high and low figures provided by Jason in his daily Heads up emails or are you using your own.
      Regards
      James

      • A

        Hi James,

Definitely using them, but they are not cast in stone.

What I mean by this is if the market has moved since they were published, them I’ll take this into account (as is recommended you do), but if there is nothing obvious that has happened to the price action, then I’ll stick with the levels published.

1 trade triggered last night for a win of 16 pips and frustratingly missed the open on the second trade by 1 pip, which if triggered would have been a winner too.

    Thur 17th Oct 1 win = 16 pips profit.

As before I’m not planning to trade on Friday as don’t want to run the risk (or costs) of holding positions over the weekend.

33 pips profit for the week and 169 pips profit to date.

    Regards,

    Mark Rose

2 trades triggered and both went to their 8 point stops.

    Wed 16th Oct 2 losers = -16 pips profit.

2 Ad Break trades triggered last night both winners, both making 20 pips.

Officially on the 2nd trade I should have made 5 pips profit as Jason recommends closing the trades before the markets open, however I decided to let it run and it reached my profit target.

    Tues 15th Oct 2 wins = 40 pips

    Regards,

    Mark

    • Hello Mark,
Some of your postings refer to ‘closing trades before the markets open’ ?
Does this refer to the Asian markets opening at 10pm?
If so I thought ABT was an overnight set and forget method?
      Thanks
      Chris

        Hi Chris,

The rule is to close prior to the European open at 7am, although I have to admit I’ve been letting them run to either the stop or limit so as to know the trade result.

last night’s EUR/USD trade is a good example as I still have this open and in profit, but officially I should have closed this for a 4 point profit earlier this morning.

        Regards,

        Mark Rose

Only 1 trade triggered last night which went to a 7 point stop

Mon 14th Oct 1 loss of 7 pips.

Pretty much the same again last night. I set my orders a little later than normal as I’d been out, but luckily hadn’t missed the move.

    Thur 10th 1 win 20 pips and 1 loss of 8 pips = 12 pips profit.

In fairness to Jason I should have made a small profit on the 2nd trade too, as Jason advises to close trades before the markets open, but I left my trade on and it then ran to the stop.

Still 72 pips for the week isn’t bad for a strategy with such tight stops.

It’s really unusual to have a scalping strategy that is set and forget and I’m liking it so far. One of the downsides of scalping is often the markets are moving fast and you either miss the entry completely, or get in but at a higher price than you wanted.

So far trading overnight has meant I have got in and out exactly at the levels that I wanted to and placing the trades has been a very relaxed process.

That’s it for me this week as I’m not planning to trade on Friday evenings as the markets close for the weekend.

    All the best,

    Mark

I’ve had a couple of winning days with Ad Break in the last couple of days, but have to admit I’ve seen the market a bit differently to Jason.

It’s quite interesting to watch his videos the next day and compare them to how I’ve traded!

As I’ve said before I’m looking to trade set and forget from around 8pm and am only looking at the EUR/USD. Jason is looking for trades from around 4pm and is also looking at cable.

Realistically I suspect most people are looking at this as a strategy to trade in the evening as life gets in the way earlier, hence why I’m ignoring the results Jason talks about from 4pm to 8pm.

    Anyway my trades were;

    Tues 8th 1 win of 20 pips and 1 loss of 9 pips = 11 pips profit
    Wed 9th 1 win of 18 pips and 1 loss of 9 pips = 9 pips profit

Both days I traded with orders to open which I placed a little after 8pm.

    Hi Forexboy
Have you been using Ad Break Trader long, and how are your results? Is it easy to set up and easy to spot the trades?

  • A

Both my Ad Break trades were triggered last night and both won 20 pips.

That said I kept my 2nd trade running past the open so officially it would only have made 6 pips if I’d closed it earlier.

Mon 7th of Oct 2 trade both won 20 pips = 40 pips profit

    Regards,

    Mark

Only 1 trade triggered last night which I lost, but if I’d followed the rules should have got out for about 5 pips profit.

Jason recommends closing the trade before the market open if they haven’t closes already. I let mine run and it went to the stop so I will record it as a loss.

Thurs 3rd Oct 1 trade for a loss of 8 pips.

That’s it again for this week as I’m not trading Friday’s.

Total for the week 28 pips and 64 pips to date, not bad as I’m really not spending much time doing this.

Am already using this – have to say that I love Jason’s style, although i can see why others might not get him. it’s a million miles from most ‘forex gurus’ – he tells it like it is!

  • Was hoping to find some feedback from other users here,b ut guess this is still a bit new. Have gone ahead and ordered it – will post back here once I’ve started using

Both the trades were triggered last night. Again 1 winner and 1 loser.

Wed 2nd Oct 1 win of 20 pips and 1 loss of 8 pips = 12 pips profit.

    Regards,

    Mark

Same thing again last night. Both trades triggered, first won 20 and the second lost 8 and maybe I should have stayed out of the second as the market had already made the move.

    Tues 1st Oct 1 win of 20 pips and 1 loss of 8 = 12 pips profit.

    Regards,

    Mark Rose

Both my trades were triggered last night, first won 20 pips and the other lost 8.

As Jason pointed out in his video this morning there is an argument to say that I shouldn’t have set the 2nd trade, as the market had already made it’s move. However I missed this, so will record it as a loss.

    Mon 30th Sept 1 win of 20 pips and 1 loss of 8 = 12 pips profit.

    Regards,

A good evening last night for my Ad Break trades. Both were triggered and both won 17 pips.

    Thur 26th Sept 2 wins = +34 pips.

That’s it for me this week as I’m not planning to try and trade Friday’s. Overall it’s been pretty good with a 36 pip profit on the week

    Regards,

    Mark

  • A

Same as last night, 1 trade triggered for an 8 pip loss.

    Wed 25th Sept = -8 pips

    Regards,

    Mark

  • A

Again only 1 of the 2 set and forget trades triggered last night, this time it was a loss.

    Tues 24th Sept 1 trade = -8 pips

  • A

Placed 2 trades last night. 1 got triggered and the other didn’t. Glad to say the one that did was a winner, so off to a winning start.

    Mon 23rd Sept 1 trade = 18 pips

    Regards,

I think I’ve got the idea for this now and will start trading tonight. Jason is looking to trade manually from around 4pm or as a set and forget system from 8pm.

I’m going to be testing the set and forget option.

I’ve just got hold of ad break trader and will write a full review in the near future, but wanted to give some feedback now to get us started.

By the way if any of you have also signed up, I’d love to hear your opinions too.

Ad break is about trading price action, which to me is one of the best ways to approach trading.

The way the strategy works is Jason looks for the support and resistance levels that the market has tested during the day and uses these to try and predict the future turning points in the market over the course of the evening.

Stop losses are kept tight and the profit target is in and around the 20 pip mark, so if your trading a relatively small bank, you’ll have no problems.

I’ll carry on following this and will post more detail in the near future.

If you are not already a Traders Bulletin member, then sign up in the box in the top right corner of the page to see my full review and updates as they come.

    All the best,
