Technical Analysis Quiz

Thought we could have some friday-afternoon fun.

It’s been a while since we ran a Trader’s Bulletin quiz, so I figured it was time for us to put our knowledge of technical analysis to the test …

All results are completely anonymous, but I’d love to hear how you get on in the comments section below.

Hi Jo, apologies for the slow reply – I’ve been away on holiday. I’m making amendments and fixing any glitches on the quiz right now. Thanks for the feedback. Mark

Never traded, have avoided trading as I have had several top london brokerages turn me down for CFD trading because they say it is too risky for me.At one of these firms I was allowed to take out an ordinary share account(I felt so priveleged)after 3 weeks of inactivity I instructed them to buy Genel Energy5k,and followed with another 2 picks which together netted me 1k profit yesterday.the broker recommended and bought BP5k?I am getting very interested in learning to trade now.

  • Great quiz – did not know as much as I thought I did…doh

  • Great quiz. 70% but like so many others, fooled by VIX and Throwbacks.

  • There was a few i have not come across the VIX Throwback, anyway

  • The quiz wouldn’t give me my result – just said Quiz Completed. 🙁

  • Just goes to show that I do not know as much as I some times think that I do!

  • Will be looking up Throw backs and yes surprised at the S&P relation to the VIX !? You learn something everyday . 70 %

  • Going so well until the last 2 questions which I got wrong

  • Thanks Mark, that was a good exercise, I got 60%, there was a couple of strangers to me which I hadn’t met before, so quite happy with the ones I got.

the steeper the trendline. the more reliable for profits when it breaks.
i don’t do well in quizzes.
    they’re not real world.

    • I disagree with your comment –

‘the steeper the trendline. the more reliable for profits when it breaks.’

I believe, have been told, anything over a 45 degree angle is not really a trend tine.

In my experience as well, that anything above an angle that steep there is usually a longer-term trend line which is the real S or R line to be looking at. Often, after a really steep move up or down the price will either trend sideways until it meets the longer trend line in play or will just reverse relatively straight away to meet the real trend line.

Per your comment, you appear to be speaking of a confiming break for a reversal / swing trade. Certainly after a long steady rise or decline when you’ve confirmation of a reversal, the swing can get you in a nice long trade and some good profits. Short-term spiking, even those that last a day or two are seldomly end of trend material.

Failed……… only managed 50% which is pretty shabby…….
Started well but faded fast… Oh well, you can’t teach an old dog…….!!

  • Hi,enjoyed quiz,got 70%,never heard of throwbacks,don’t use vix,and don’t know how to trade gaps,but very enjoyable.walt

  • exactly the same as sneakyP. Wrong on vix and Throwback. Surprised at the s&p 500 inverse correlation for the vix.

  • A

Glad you enjoyed it. Throwbacks and pullbacks can be fantastic entry tools, and they are a lot more common on charts than you might expect – worth checking out (https://www.tradersbulletin.co.uk/how-to-double-your-money-when-the-price-goes-the-wrong-way)

  • Good quiz. Only managed 50% I am afraid. Thanks for the fun/educational quiz.

  • Good to flex my brain on a Friday afternoon. Am annoyed that I got the pivot point ones wrong. All stuff I THOUGHT I knew!

  • That was fun… 80% – wrong on VIX (never used it) and throwback Q (never heard of throwbacks)

  • That was fun, and for a newbie, I thought I did good!
